Mission
As Poor Clares we are a pontifical order of Franciscan cloistered, contemplative nuns with solemn vows who observe papal enclosure, living in the spirit of Saint Francis and Saint Clare. The monasteries of the order are autonomous and are not affiliated with any male order. We are directly under the jurisdiction of the Holy See. Our apostolate is perpetual adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament with solemn exposition. We recite the entire Liturgy of the Hours each day in the monastery chapel, and wear the traditional full habit and headwear and are faithful to the Magisterium.
Qualifications
Those aspiring to our community must have graduated from high school, practiced the faith at least four years, be mature in their faith and have a deep desire to totally consecrate themselves to the adoration of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
Formation
All formation of the nuns is done at the monastery. Postulancy is for one year, novitiate for two years, temporary vows taken each year for five years, followed by solemn vows for the cloistered nuns or perpetual (simple) vows for the extern sisters. Continuing formation in the spiritual life and in our Franciscan way of life includes lessons from our superior and priests and the use of an excellent library of orthodox books, as well as keeping up with new documents of the Church and the Holy Father.
